Design Coach on Call

Fun and Useful Stuff for Designers

19 November 2009

This post shares three different, inspirational and useful design resources with you.  And I’m just tickled pink to say two of the three have been created by designer clients of mine.

Swapyourshop.com

Change your life, see the world, keep your job. Does it get any better?

Through SwapYourShop, creative professionals from around the world will communicate with one another to organize a “swap”. When two people engage in a temporary “swap”, they’ll exchange living spaces, offices, local pubs, etc. while continuing to work remotely for their respective employers for an extended period of time. In essence, they’ll get to swap their lives and keep their jobs.

Thank you Jennifer Wright and partners for putting your time and money behind your vision. What a way to see the world while enhancing your creative career instead of putting it at risk or on hold.

With SwapYourShop creative professionals can:

• get a creative boost
• experience another culture
• learn how other creatives work
• share new found knowledge and inspiration with their team back home
• travel the world!

Creative Coaching with Debra Wren

Having been a Client of Pam’s for a few years, I was already familiar with how impactful having a coach could be in someone’s life.  She helped me open my eyes to the value of my unique gifts.  I wanted to do pay it forward; to impact others as she had me.   One day I was searching the internet for creative inspiration and I came across the Kaizen-Muse Creativity Coach website.  I was intrigued.  After speaking with Jill Badonsky, KMCC founder, I realized I had to learn more. I soon combined the down-to-earth insight I learned from Pam and the whimsical approach from Jill into a special blend of personal Creativity Coaching & corporate Brainstorm Facilitation.

I work as a designer and art director for the world’s most recognizable entertainment company & have the privilege to collaborate with incredibly talented individuals.  What is shocking is how they all need a creative boost at some time or another.  I began working as a Mentor, both inside and outside my professional world.  Sometimes it’s the smallest question that can solve the biggest problem.  Sometimes we just need someone to remind us that we have a unique vision.  Much of the time, we each just need encouragement.  That’s what coaching provides:  help in appreciating one’s own creative journey, a lighthearted approach to problem solving and a personal cheerleader.

Creative thought changes the world.  We all have the power inside to positively impact the moment we are in right now, one small step at a time!

Debra Wren lives in Orlando, FL with her husband, son, two dogs, two cats, two mice and “Roo-B”, the red Mini-Cooper.

Designer’s Survival Guide

Your cheat sheet of essential tips, tricks and pitfalls to avoid from eight experienced industry professionals.

OK, I know there are lots of ‘how-to’ guides out there, as a coach it’s my job to read them {smile}. But this one is a bit special. It brings you insights from not one, but eight design professionals. While they only admit to being professional, I can boast on their behalf and say each is very talented, many are award winning and they are all special people, sharing hard-earned insights generously.

And the price can’t be beat. Ever generous, they list all topics and if you just need one today, you can buy it for $1.49. All ten can be had for $9.99. Go check it out. I bet you’ll find a topic you can use right now.
